About this meeting

Findings of the International Resource Panel’s report, Global Resources Outlook 2019, Natural Resources for the Future we Want, were presented at the International Environment House, on Thursday 2 May 2019.

The publication examines the trends in natural resources and their corresponding consumption patterns since the 1970s to support policymakers in strategic decision-making and transitioning to a sustainable economy. According to the report, which was released at the fourth session of the UN Environment Assembly, in March 2019.

Rapid growth in extraction of materials is the chief culprit in climate change and biodiversity loss – a challenge that will only worsen unless the world urgently undertakes a systemic reform of resource use. Through a combination of resource efficiency, climate mitigation, carbon removal, and biodiversity protection policies, this report finds that it is feasible and possible to grow economies, increase well-being and remain within planetary boundaries.

The report is available on the International Resource Panel website.
