What's Up in #GENeva this week?

4 March - 10 March 2019

Human Rights & Environment High on the agenda this week

The 40th Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC40) is ongoing in Geneva. Various events discussing environmental-related issues are taking place during this four-weeks session (follow live on UNTV).

The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights and Environment will present his report on the right to breathe clean air (A/HRC/40/55 available online) on Monday 4 March.

Norway has proposed to focus on environmental human rights defenders in this year’s thematic resolution. Read the statement by H.E. Ine Eriksen Søreide, the Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs, during the side-event on environmental human rights defenders on 25 February. (watch also video)

Parallel to the March session of the UN Human Rights Council, the International Film Festival and Forum on Human Rights (FIFDH)  has been taking place in Geneva for the past 16 years. The 17th edition starts on 8 March, with various films on the theme of environment included in the programme, and related debates.
